democratic 的词源

“人民的统治，指一种政府体制，其中最高权力归全体人民，他们可以直接行使权力或通过选举产生的官员来行使；被这种体制治理的国家。”这个定义最早出现在1570年代，源自法语 démocratie（14世纪），再往前追溯到中世纪拉丁语 democratia（13世纪），最终源自希腊语 dēmokratia，意为“人民的统治”。其中，dēmos 意指“平民”，最初的意思是“地区” （参见 demotic），而 kratos 则表示“统治，力量”（参见 -cracy）。
