motocross 的词源

1767年，关于道路的用法，指“横跨田野或开阔地带的”，源自 cross- + country，或者是 across-country 的缩写。关于飞行的用法，从1909年开始。作为名词，指“户外长跑运动”，首次出现于1956年。

“一种由小型发动机驱动的大型自行车”，这个词最早出现在1895年，是由motor（发动机）和-cycle（自行车）结合而成的混合词，源自bicycle（自行车）。在19世纪末，Motocycle这个拼写也曾被使用。
