colossus 的词源

“巨型雕像”，14世纪末，源自拉丁语 colossus，意为“超现实的雕像”，又来自希腊语 kolossos，同样指“巨型雕像”，其具体来源尚不明确。希腊词汇最早被希罗多德用来形容埃及的巨大雕像，罗马人则用来指代位于罗德港口入口的青铜赫利俄斯像。1794年起，这个词还被引申为“任何令人敬畏的巨大事物”。
