logged 的词源

这是一块未加工的大树块，早期14世纪，来源不明。古诺尔斯语中有lag，意为“倒下的树”（源自liggja，意为“躺下”，因此可以理解为“横卧的树”）。不过，许多词源学家从音韵学角度否认这可以成为英语log的词源。他们认为这个词可能是独立形成的，旨在“通过一个发音合适的词来表达某物庞大的概念”[《牛津英语词典》，1989年，比较clog（名词）在其原始中世纪英语中的意思“木块”]。

Log cabin（1770年）是美国内战前历史中，生活在当时西部森林丰富地区的贫困人们的典型住所。自威廉·亨利·哈里森1840年总统竞选以来，它就成为诚实拓荒者的象征（最初的用法带有讽刺意味，无论如何都是不准确的）。Falling off a log作为形容某事简单易行的表达，起源于1839年。

1759年，在《环球杂志》九月刊中关于拉各斯战役的报道中出现，来源于 water（名词1）+ log（名词1）；这个词的概念似乎是“将（船只）变成像木头一样的状态”。可以与 logged 进行比较。
