arboricide 的词源

1650年代，“故意杀死自己”，来自现代拉丁语 suicidium “自杀”，源自拉丁语 sui “自己的”（se “自我”的属格），来自原始印欧语 *s(u)w-o- “自己的”，来自词根 *s(w)e-（参见 idiom）+ -cidium “杀戮”，来自 caedere “杀死”（来自原始印欧语词根 *kae-id- “打击”）。

可能是英语的创造；拉丁语纯粹主义者对这个词的批评很多，因为它“可能看起来既与 sus，一头母猪，相关，也与代词 sui 相关”[Phillips, "New World of Words," 1671]。

“故意杀死自己的人”的意义从1728年起被证实。在盎格鲁-拉丁语中，“自杀者”的术语是 felo-de-se，字面意思是“对自己有罪的人”。19世纪偶尔用作动词。
