architecture 的词源

“擅长建筑的人，负责规划和设计建筑并监督其施工的人”，这个词最早出现在1560年代，源自法语 architecte，再往前追溯则是拉丁语 architectus，而它又源自希腊语 arkhitekton，意思是“总建筑师，工程负责人”。其中，arkhi- 意为“首席”（参见 archon），而 tekton 则是“建筑工人，木匠”（来自原始印欧语词根 *teks-，意为“编织”，引申为“制造”）。

在古英语中，人们用 heahcræftiga（意为“高水平的工匠”）来翻译拉丁语的 architectus。到了中古英语，出现了 architectour（意为“监督者”）。从1580年代起，这个词还被引申用于指代“任何策划或设计事物的人”。
