charming 的词源

大约公元1300年，charmen，意为“吟唱或施展魔法”，源自古法语charmer（13世纪）“使人着迷，令（某人）渴望（某物）；保护，治愈，处理；虐待，伤害”，进一步追溯至晚期拉丁语carminare，源自拉丁语carmen，意为“歌，诗，魔咒，宗教公式”（参见charm (n.)）。

在古法语中，这个词既可以指魔法活动，也可以指非魔法活动。在英语中，从15世纪中期起，它被用来表示“通过愉快的方式赢得（某人的好感或喜爱）”。到18世纪初，这个词的较弱意义“极其愉悦”开始出现。Charmed作为对问候或见面的常规回复（是I am charmed的缩写）最早可追溯至1825年。

1837年，这个词源自法语 Roi Charmant，是《奥尔诺伊夫人的“蓝鸟”》（1697年）中的男主角。在英语中，他被融入了本土的童话故事，比如《睡美人》和《灰姑娘》。
