geology 的词源

1795年起，geologia一词被用来指代“地壳的过去与现在的科学”，源自现代拉丁语，意为“地球的研究”，由geo-（意为“地球”）和logia（参见-logy）组合而成。德语中的Geologie最早可追溯至1785年。在中世纪拉丁语中，geologia（14世纪）指的是“对世俗事物的研究”，即法律领域，与关注神的作品的艺术和科学相区别。达尔文曾将geologize用作动词。
