id est 的词源

1680年代，源自拉丁语 exempli gratia，意为“为了举例说明”。其中，exemplum 是“例子”的属格形式（参见 example），而 gratia 则是“为了……的缘故”或“恩惠”的奚落格形式，来自原始印欧语词根 *gwere- (2) “给予恩惠”的派生形式。

这是拉丁语 id est 的缩写，字面意思是“也就是说”；在英语中用来表示“换句话说”。拉丁语中的 id 意为“它”，源自原始印欧语的代词词干 *i-（参见 yon）。至于 est，请参见 is。
