retarded 的词源

1550年代，“延迟”，从 retard (v.) 的过去分词形容词。

在儿童发展心理学中，“智力迟缓，在智力或教育进步上显著滞后”，尤其是由于某些障碍所致，1895年有证据（G.E. Shuttleworth， “皇家阿尔伯特精神病院，针对北部地区白痴和弱智患者的晚期医疗主任”，可能受到意大利 tardivi 的启发）。
