stoker 的词源

1680年代，“喂养并搅动”（壁炉或炉中的火），是从stoker“维护炉中火焰的人”（1650年代）回形成的；最终来源于荷兰语stoken“搅动”，源自中世纪荷兰语stoken“戳，刺”，与stoc“棍子，树桩”有关，来自原始日耳曼语*stok-“刺入，戳入”（来自原始印欧语*steug-，扩展形式的词根*(s)teu- (1)“推，刺，敲，打”；参见steep (adj.)）。

后来特别指用于蒸汽机锅炉的火。比喻意义“激发，唤起”（感情等）始于1837年。Stoked“热情的”于1963年在冲浪者俚语中被记录，但该词延伸至人们的使用更早，最初意为“吃，喂自己”（1882年）。
