Old Tom 的词源

1807年，“杜松子酒；杜松子酒的拟人化。”在较早的用法中可以指任何杜松子酒，但后来成为一种老式甜杜松子酒的名称，是伦敦干型杜松子酒的前身。

这个名字的原因尚不清楚。1807年的用法来自一首关于“Old Tom”的滑稽歌曲，他是“Peg Juniper”的儿子，当他去世时，他被放入一个桶中，桶被用来盛杜松子酒。

另一种理论是，它是以伦敦的一位杜松子酒商人Thomas Chamberlain的名字命名的，他在1800年左右为他最喜欢的顾客保留了一批特别的杜松子酒，因此“Old Tom's gin”是特别优质的杜松子酒。这种词源解释出现在1860年代。
