bounty 的词源

13世纪晚期，“自由赠予的礼物，奖励，恩惠；”约1300年，“善良，美德；美丽；卓越；骑士精神，力量，勇气，”14世纪早期，“有帮助的行为，慷慨的行为，善行，”也指“给予的宽大，慷慨，大方，”来自盎格鲁法语 bountee，古法语 bonte “善良”（12世纪，现代法语 bonté），来自拉丁语 bonitatem（主格 bonitas）“善良”，源自 bonus “好”（参见 bonus）。结尾是 -ty (2)，但拉丁语词干元音的丧失使其不明显。

“由君主或国家赠予的礼物”的意义导致了“给予军事新兵的奖金或 gratuity”（1702年）以及“杀死或捕获罪犯或敌人或危险动物的奖励”（1764年，1847年）的扩展意义。

Bounty-jumper “一个在军队中入伍，领取奖金后逃避服役的人”源自美国内战（1864年之前）。Bounty-hunter 源自1893年，美国英语，最初指野生动物。
