conspiracy 的词源

在14世纪中期，conspiracy这个词的意思是“恶意的阴谋或非法的设计；为了邪恶目的而结合在一起的人们”。它源自古法语的conspiracie，进一步追溯到拉丁语的conspirationem（主格为conspiratio），意指“协议、联合、一致行动”。这个名词来自于动词conspirare，原意是“共同呼吸”或“共谋”（参见conspire）。

在同一语境中，早期还有一个词conspiration（14世纪初），来自法语conspiration（13世纪），同样源于拉丁语conspirationem。在古英语中，这个概念可以用facengecwis来表达。
