muffin 的词源

“一种小巧、轻盈、圆形的海绵蛋糕，主要用鸡蛋制作”，通常会涂上黄油后烤着吃。这个词最早出现在1703年，moofin，可能源自低地德语的muffen，是muffe的复数形式，意为“小蛋糕”；或者与古法语的moflet（意为“柔软、嫩滑”，通常用来形容面包）有某种联系。历史上，松饼和克伦佩特（crumpet）之间的区别并不完全清晰，这个话题也颇为复杂。在美式英语中，这个词的含义被扩展到了某种杯形的小面包或蛋糕（通常加入蓝莓、巧克力碎片等），因此出现了muffin top这个说法，意指“紧身低腰牛仔裤上方的腰部隆起”（2005年起），因其形状与烤盘中烤制的松饼相似。Muffin-man（松饼小贩）这个说法最早可以追溯到1754年。
