police 的词源

1530年代起，“对一个社区的管理和控制”（与 policy (n.1) 意思相近）；源自中法语 police，意为“有组织的政府，民事行政”（15世纪晚期），进一步追溯到拉丁语 politia，意为“民事行政”，再到希腊语 polis，意为“城市”（参见 polis）。
