solitude 的词源

“孤独的状态，与社会的隔离”，这个词最早出现在14世纪中期，源自古法语 solitude（意为“孤独”），并直接借自拉丁语 solitudinem（主格为 solitudo），意指“孤独、独处；荒凉的地方、沙漠、荒野”。其词根 solus 则意为“独自一人”（参见 sole (adj.)）。在英语中，这个词直到17世纪才开始普遍使用。[牛津英语词典]
