Chile 的词源

也称为chilli，chile，意为“一种美洲辣椒的荚果或果实”，1640年代，来源于纳瓦特尔语（阿兹特克语）chilli，是辣椒的本地名称。并不是因南美国家命名。作为chile con carne及类似菜肴的缩写，最早见于1846年。

 [In New Mexico a dish is] prepared with the ripe pods of chili after the seeds are removed. The pods are ground between two stones, then cooked in water and thickened with eggs well beaten. The green chili is prepared by roasting it in adobe bake-ovens until the outer skin peels off nicely; then it is mashed with the seeds in, and seasoned with salt and perhaps lard.
