heel-tap 的词源

“脚后跟”，源自古英语 hela，可以追溯到原始日耳曼语 *hanhilaz-（同源词还有古诺尔斯语 hæll、古弗里斯语 hel、荷兰语 hiel），这个词的词源是原始印欧语 *kenk-（3）“脚跟，膝盖弯曲处”的一个小词形式（同源词还有古英语 hoh，意为“踝部”）。

“鞋或靴子的后跟”这个意思大约出现在1400年左右。Down at heels（1732年）指的是鞋靴的后跟磨损严重，主人因为经济拮据而无法更换。关于Achilles' heel“唯一脆弱之处”的说法，可以参考 Achilles。在中古英语中，fight with (one's) heels（fighten with heles）的意思是“逃跑”。
