avant-garde 的词源

还有 avant garde、avantgarde 这两个词；源自法语，字面意思是“先锋”或“前卫”（参见 avant + guard (n.)）。在英语中，这个词最早出现在15世纪到18世纪，主要用于军事领域，指的是部队的前锋。1910年，这个词又被借用，成为艺术界的术语，用来形容“某一时期的先锋或创新者”。大约在同一时期，它也被用在一些共产主义和无政府主义的出版物中，表达政治上的前卫思想。作为形容词，这个用法在1925年左右开始流行。
