restraint 的词源

“抑制（行动或动作）；约束、阻碍”，早在15世纪，restreinte，源自古法语 restreinte，是名词用法，来自女性过去分词 restraindre（参见 restrain）。

1829年起，特别用于指代难以驯服的囚犯或危险的精神病患者。约1600年时，“克制，抑制奢华的举止或风格”这一含义开始出现。短语 restraint of trade 则出现在1630年代。

Wherever thought is wholly wanting, or the power to act or forbear according to the direction of thought ; there necessity takes place.
