correspondent 的词源

在15世纪初，“与……有类似关系，回应，匹配”的意思，这个意义在19世纪被corresponding采纳。它源自中世纪拉丁语correspondentem，是动词correspondere的现在分词，意为“相应，协调，互相作用”。这个词由com（意为“共同，一起”，参见com-）和respondere（意为“回答”，参见respond）结合而成。

“通过信件与他人交流的人”，这个词最早出现在1620年代，源自形容词correspondent。在报纸上的用法——“从远处定期发送信件的人”——则始于1711年。
