still 的词源

古英语 stille “静止的，稳定的，固定的，静态的”，来自原始日耳曼语 *stilli-（也源自古弗里西亚语，中低德语，中荷兰语 stille，荷兰语 stil，古高德语 stilli，德语 still），来自原始印欧语根 *stel- “放置，站立，整理”的后缀形式，衍生词指代静止的物体或地方。

“安静，平静，温和，沉默”的意义在后期古英语中出现。从1722年起用作连词。提到孩子时，在 stillborn 等词中委婉地表示“死去”。Still small voice 来自《钦定版圣经》：
